MOVIE REVIEW

TITLE: The Angry Birds Movie

DESCRIPTION: 2016 animated movie based on the popular game.

DIRECTED BY: Clay Kaytis (a longtime Disney animator) and Fergal Reilly (an Irish animator who has worked for Disney and Sony).

WRITTEN BY: John Vitti (The Simpsons, Alvin and the Chipmunks)

STARRING:

STUDIO: Sony's Columbia Pictures. Rovio, the Finnish maker of the game, produced it and retained full creative control.

MY TAKE: I was disappointed with it. The animation was nice. And it had a stellar cast. But the story was a dud. Very generic. Lacked energy and heart.

NOTES:
  • Did okay at the box office. It made almost $350 million but it cost $75 million to make and the studio spent hundreds of millions of dollars promoting it. Supposedly after everything was accounted for, it still made a profit so a sequel is already in the works.
  • The most successful movie Finland has ever made.
  • The voices were recorded at a studio in Vancouver, Canada.
  • Youtuber Toby Turner was rumored to have had a role that was cut after he was accused of sexual assault.
