MOVIE REVIEW

TITLE: The Space Between Us

DESCRIPTION: 2017 sci-fi movie about a 16-year-old boy who returns to Earth after growing up on Mars.

DIRECTED BY: British director Peter Chelsom (The Hannah Montana Movie)

WRITTEN BY: The original screenplay, titled Mainland, was written way back in 1999 and featured a boy on the moon but it never went anywhere. In 2014, Allan Loeb (Collateral Beauty) got a hold of it and rewrote it.

STARRING:

STUDIO: Universal originally had it. When they didn't make it, Relativity picked it up. When they went bankrupt, they sold it to STX Entertainment.

MY TAKE: It was okay. I liked the idea of it. I liked the cast. But the story was a little too silly. My biggest nitpick is that sixteen years pass and NOBODY ages or changes. We're also supposed to believe that there's space travel and a thriving Mars base but everything still looks like the present day?

NOTES:
  • Tanked at the box office, making $10.5 million on a budget of $30 million.
  • Filmed in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
  • Was originally going to be released December 2016 but got pushed back to February 2017.
  • Youtube stars Joey Graceffa and Lele Pons have cameos as students in the classroom.
  • Cute Guy Alert
